Shoe Boxes of Love worked closely with Vinnies SA and the Red Cross to provide shoe boxes of love to residents affected by the Pinery fires, with the first load of shoe boxes delivered to one of the Relief Centres. Kimberley was witness to the heartwarming moment an affected resident received her shoe box of love shortly after delivery.
Our team understand that Australians are a proud society, and seldom ask for help. As such, we called for 'referrals' of those who had been affected by the fires, and could use a smile, some love and hope. It was a small way of letting those affected know they are not alone in the recovery journey. Kimberley and Marcus report that the hugs and tears of appreciation were well worth the long hours.
Please note that we do not, under any circumstances, accept any second hand items, as these are generally not in the best interest of recovery efforts. If you have items you would like to donate, please contact Vinnies SA, as they are coordinating donations, as appointed by the State Recovery Office. Alternatively, pop over and list your items with our friends at GIVIT. GIVIT are a direct giving network, and provide a virtual warehouse in which organisations can access your donations directly for those in need.
The team were also asked to provide support to the volunteers working with Habitat for Humanity as part of the recovery/rebuild progress. 200 packages were filled with PPE, and special treats for the generous volunteers helping others get back on their feet.
